Winter is here

23-Nov-2010 – minus 7C. We have the heating turned on for the first time yesterday. The entire north side of the bedroom is glass window and faces north. Awesome in the summer, but winter can get chilly when it dips below zero. With the heating, it’ll only reach 17C until it reaches equilibrium. Comforter and blanket keeps us cozy at night. :)

STi has winter WS-50 Blizzak legs on now as the backup in case it snows (tentatively this Thur). Engine is struggling to fire up and the diffs are stone cold, but it has never failed me in the snow (read: hwy-5 with 5 flipped SUV’s and still doing 100km/h).

I will be out in Boulder after this week, so more exciting posts from there maybe. :p

WP 3.0

I’ve installed WP 3.0 and so far it’s the same as before. I have to re-do the page headers, but I think I need a tutorial on the new features to help make updating easier. :/

Ok… I’m messing around with the default twentyten theme to take advantage of all of the new features.

BG-E2N again

Just got back from being away for 2 weeks in Taiwan and gained 3.5lbs. I took the Lowepro slingbang with me with the 50D and 17-55, but I didn’t even pull it out once. :/

Better news – I found a BG-E2N for the 50D! See my previous post about US vs Cnd price differences. Kerrisdale Camera had a used one someone traded in. Looked it over and not a scratch on it. It worked perfectly, so I was able to pick it up for $99+tax with a 30 day return. So far it’s a balanced out the camera nicely, and the portrait shots are good now. It barely fits into my slingbag now but still do-able. If you’re looking for good used gear, check them out. What they have will be different at each store, but it may be better and reliable than going to the classifieds/CL.

BG-E2N

A lot of my portrait shots suck because they’re not anywhere near 90degrees. For some reason it looks straight, but they’re waaaaaay much more off than 90, lol. I was comparing prices for the BG-E2N grip and it’s surprising that a lot of stuff you buy in Canada is still way overpriced, compared to the US. $13x USD vs $200Cnd for the grip. Mind you, you are supporting Canadian/local places by buying locally, but a difference of $70 is quite a bit. Specifically about the grip – it’s been around for ages, and still it’s overpriced. At that rate, I might as well order it online.

Dawn & Jay’s wedding

Dawn & Jays Wedding

Dawn & Jay's Wedding

I haven’t pulled out my camera since the Olympic flame pulled into Richmond. I didn’t even do an update for that one. :p  Mostly preoccupied by other daily stuff to take care of, I reluctantly shouldered my Lowepro bag with my gear to Dawn & Jay’s wedding. I knew I wasn’t going to get spectacular shots from seated positions. Throughout the day, there were a gazillion people with DSLRs, overwhelming the official photographer. I wasn’t going to be a dick about it and be like them, so I stuck to my seat and laid low. We had official wedding duties to take care of that day anyways, and plus the drinks kept me occupied. :p

New Update

I think I have given up on LiveJournal. It used to be some other free web space in the 90′s, then I changed to LJ and nowadays, it’s still FB. And I still have my own private webspace, so i’ll feed off of there for now. Posting from here/there now. :p

The Emperor is in my ‘hood

My neighborhood was blocked off today with cruisers and blockades. Found out the Japan emperor was still in town. The Nikkei center is right down the street from my place. Cruisers blocked off the main road when he was ready to leave. I love how the 70-300mm can reach. :)

Olympic Oval… times eleventyBillion

I never went to shoot the Oval before when it opened. Every time I’d drive passed it, there would be a mob of shooters there. There’s a ton of photos on flickr and stuff, so it was hard to get into the mood to go shoot it. Tonight for some reason I did. I went late on purpose, and it was a quiet, clear night.
